tastas at kidkid (rip and wind)
site-responsive multimedia installation
tastas at kidkid (rip and wind), iteration 4.0, July 2026, Bard College Exhibition Exhibition Center, Red Hook, NY
tastas at kidkid (rip and wind) is a work-in-progress site-responsive multimedia installation series.
Materials: found/used denim garments, straight pins, safety pins, thread, jute twine, needles, seam ripper, bleach, projectors, monitor, 85 lbs. of rice, transducer, amplifier, media players, media storage, digital recordings, time with family, time away from family, 2024 to present
The components of the work have been installed in response to the specificity and problems of the site/studio. Guests are requested to remove shoes/outdoor footwear as they enter the space. Engagement with the materials and structures is encouraged: you may touch the materials, go under the sculptures, sit, and lie down. While nothing has been permanently constructed, please do not displace and remove anything from the room.
The audio-visual archives have been recorded in the cities of Manila, Hong Kong, Spokane, and New York from different times (2013, 2014, 2019, 2024, 2025, 2026) and include various moments of gathering and assembly.
Visitors and workshop participants may contribute their own clothing/textile and digital recordings (audio and video) to be added in the installation as part of the collective archive and placemaking.
What comes after destruction? tastas at kidkid explores the possibilities of mending through provisionary placemaking. A de/reconstruction. To destroy and to save. Ripping through each garment’s seams, building forts from what remains. A careful investigation of both the material and labor.
How do we rip oppressive systems apart at the seams?
